A new trend in the last few years is the addition of “Accessory Dwelling Units” (ADUs) more commonly known as “in-law” units. These units can increase property values upwards of 30% and possibly produce additional monthly income. Kern County has had incentive programs in place to promote these types of dwellings as they increase neighborhood values and better utilization of land use. ADU’s can either be attached to your current structure or stand-alone depending on the existing lot size.
